Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 7-6 to the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.

Wichita is now tied for the wild card lead with St. Paul and trails Gary SouthShore by 2.0 games in the Central Division. All three teams are down to their final 11 games.

12 of the 13 runs in the game, including all six of Wichita's, were scored on two-out hits.

With the Wingnuts leading 5-3 in the top of the eighth, the T-Bones rallied for four two-out runs to take a 7-5 lead. Logan Hoch allowed a one-out single to Jose Duran and was relieved by Geivy Garcia. After Rico Washington walked, Garcia struck out Ray Sadler for the second out of the inning.

Garcia then walked Jim Fasano on a full count to load the bases, setting up a first-pitch, three-run double to deep left center field to Kala Ka'aihue that made it 6-5 Kansas City. Justin Snyder followed with a soft single to left-center that drove in the T-Bones' seventh run of the night.

The Wingnuts put the tying runs on base with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth when Drew Graham was relieved by Kyle Dahman. Dahman retired the next three hitters in a row to escape the jam without allowing a run.

In the bottom of the ninth, Carlos Rivera led off with a line drive single to left-center against Dahman to bring the tying run to the plate. Rivera was forced out at second on a groundball hit by Jorge Delgado. After Mitch Einertson flied out to left, Delgado took second base on defensive indifference and scored on a two-out single to center from Josh Workman. Dahman then retired Edwin Bellorin on a popout to shortstop to end the game and notch his second multi-inning save against Wichita in three nights.

Ka'aihue and Snyder hit back-to-back, two-out solo home runs off of Wingnuts' starter Derek Blacksher in the top of the second to give Kansas City an early 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the inning, Workman lined a two-out double down the left field line and came in when Bellorin flared a single to shallow right-center.

Jimmy Mojica led off the bottom of the third with a single, stole second base, and eventually scored the tying run on Rivera's two-out, line drive single to left.

Wichita took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and no one on base, Josh Horn ripped a single to left and scored from first on Juan Richardson's RBI triple down the right field line.

With no one on base in the fifth, Workman and Bellorin hit back-to-back singles with two outs. Mike Conroy drew a walk to load the bases. Mojica followed with a long single to left-center that scored Workman and Bellorin with the Wingnuts fourth and fifth runs.

Blacksher settled in after the second and did not allow a run until Ka'aihue hit his second home run of the night leading off the top of the seventh. Blacksher took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on five hits in seven innings. Blacksher walked one and struck out five.

Kris Johnson started for Kansas City, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in five and two-thirds innings. Johnson walked three, struck out five, and also took a no-decision.

Chris Little earned the win for Kansas City, working one and one-third scoreless innings. Garcia took the loss for Wichita.
