Allentown, Pennsylvania - The Lehigh Valley Hoagies (27-27) scored five unanswered runs to pull away from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-28) for a 6-3 win on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The RailRiders scored first for the fourth straight game, opening the scoring in the first with a two-out RBI single from Andres Chaparro.
The Hoagies answered with an RBI knock in the last of the first from Dustin Peterson.
In the second, Kole Calhoun walked to open the frame. An out later, a Billy McKinney two-run homer put the RailRiders back ahead.
Peterson struck again in the fourth, leading off the frame with a solo homer, his fifth of the season to draw the Hoagies to within one run. Vimael Machin tied the game later in the inning with an RBI single.
Simon Muzziotti put the Hoagies on top for the first time with an RBI ground out in the fifth.
The Hoagies plated two insurance runs in the eighth with Jhailyn Ortiz driving in a run with a sacrifice fly and Jim Haley scoring from third during a rundown between first and second during a stolen base.
Noah Skirrow (5-1) gutted out 5.2 innings to earn the win for the Hoagies, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks, striking out two. Ben Bowden (S,1) converted the save with a scoreless ninth, working around a two-out walk.
