Hitmen Trade Defenceman Eric Frere To Kootenay Ice

Calgary, AB - Calgary Hitmen General Manager and Head Coach Kelly Kisio announced today defenceman Eric Frere has been traded to the Kootenay Ice for a fifth round pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

"We would like to thank Eric for his commitment to our organization and to the city of Calgary," said Kisio.

"With our abundance of defenceman we wanted to move Eric to a place where he's going to get an opportunity to play, added Kisio. "We wish Eric great success with the Kootenay Ice."

Frere, a 19-year-old from Trochu, Alberta, played 79 career regular season games with the Hitmen. He had 15 points (2g 13a) while picking up 75 penalty minutes.

The Hitmen return to action on Sunday afternoon to host the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Fans are invited to stay in the 'Dome and watch the second half of the Battle of Alberta on the Enmax Energy Board as the Flames visit the Oilers.
