Rockets' Blueliners to play at Top Prospects Game
January 10, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Kelowna Rockets Tyler Myers and Luke Schenn will compete in the 2008 Home Hardware CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta on January 22 and 23.
Kelowna Rockets' President/General Manager Bruce Hamilton says, "Our organization is honoured and proud that these two players have been selected to play. More importantly it reflects the great job Lorne Frey and our scouting staff have done in finding excellent young players for our organization."
Schenn, from Saskatoon, was the 20th pick overall in the 2004 WHL Bantam draft, while Calgary native Myers was selected 19th in the 2005 WHL Bantam draft.
In November Myers was ranked second and Schenn fourth in the Western Hockey League in the NHL preliminary ranking for the 2008 entry draft. Success for both players is a direct result of the work of the Rockets' coaching staff. Jeff Truitt last season and Ryan Huska and Jeff Finley are major reasons for their maturity.
"We are very proud to announce the outstanding line-up of players that will compete in this year's edition of the Home Hardware CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game," said CHL President David Branch. "This event has become one of the most anticipated on the hockey calendar every January and we are very thankful for our partnership with the National Hockey League and Home Hardware that help make this game possible. The Canadian Hockey League is very excited to be back in Edmonton with the return of the Oil Kings and we look forward to hosting this special event there."
The 2008 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is the annual showcase of the top draft eligible players from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and features the next wave of future NHL stars from across the Canadian Hockey League. The two-day event will feature the annual Top Prospects game, as well as a thrilling skills competition where players can show-off their individual abilities for fans and scouts alike.
The rosters are selected by the 30 NHL general managers as well as the NHL's Central Scouting department.
"The Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is a major event where scouts can see all the premier draft-eligible players in Major Junior hockey compete head-to-head," said NHL Central Scouting Director, EJ McGuire. "This year again promises an opportunity for players to showcase their talent to all NHL scouts with the ultimate goal of making the jump into the NHL, as Sam Gagner of the Edmonton Oilers did last year at the Top Prospects Game."
