Frawley Stadium

RHP Mitch Brown (1-3, 4.50) vs. LHP Eric Skoglund (2-1, 2.40)

LAST TIME OUT: LUIS LUGO came off the disabled list and struck out five over three innings, but the Hillcats bats were silent in the early going in a 4-2 loss to the Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon... Wilmington scored two in the first thanks in part to a pair of errors... RAMON TORRES led off with a single and moved to third on a bunt single by JACK LOPEZ and an error at first. ZANE EVANS lined a ball to third that hit off the glove of PAUL HENDRIX that allowed TORRES to score... FRANK SCHWINDEL picked up an RBI single later in the inning, and it was 2-0 Blue Rocks after one... LOGAN MOON added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI singled that scored DOMINIQUE TAYLOR to make it 3-0... TAYLOR led off the frame with a double... Lynchburg pulled themselves within one in the sixth... IVAN CASTILLO tripled down the right field line for the second consecutive game and scored on a sacrifice fly from CLINT FRAZIER... NELLIE RODRIGUEZ followed with his fourth home run of the year and it was 3-2 Wilmington after five and a half... The Blue Rocks moved the lead back to two in the bottom half with an RBI single from MOON that scored CAM GALLAGHER... GALLAGHER doubled earlier in the frame. The Hillcats brought the tying run to the plate again in the ninth, but came up short and lost by two for the second game in a row, 4-2.

VS. WILMINGTON: Lynchburg took the season series 13-7 against the Blue Rocks in 2014... Two of those victories were back-to-back no hitters in Wilmington on June 26 and 27... Both were combined no-hitters... RHP LUCAS SIMS went the first seven innings of the first game... Sims allowed a run and four walks, but struck out six... RHP ALEX WILSON finished the final two innings to complete the masterpiece... The next night, RHP CODY SCARPETTA retired the first 17 hitters he faced before finally walking a man in the sixth... RHP BRUNO PRUNEDA took over in the eighth and capped off two straight no-hit games to make Lynchburg the 11th minor league franchise to accomplish the feat... The Carolina Mudcats, last year's high-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, went 5-14 against the Blue Rocks... INF JAMES ROBERTS enjoyed a .321 over 17 games against Wilmington, including a pair of doubles and four RBIs...INF JOE SEVER also had success against the Northern Division foes... he hit .375 with an RBI over six games.

BRUINING HITTERS DAYS: RHP ADAM PLUTKO was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 4-10... PLUTKO made one start in that span, striking out a season-high eight hitters in 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He scattered five hits and didn't allow any player to get past second base. The former College World Series MVP for the UCLA Bruins earned his second win of the season, despite a sparkling 1.23 ERA over six starts. The outing was the second time he didn't allow a run in a start this season. He previously held Carolina to two hits and no runs over six innings on April 28... In his six starts, PLUTKO has been nothing short of magnificent. He hasn't allowed more than two runs in any contest so far, he's only allowed two once. He's surrendered five earned runs this season and two in his last three starts. He has five quality starts. The only game that didn't earn a quality start, he went five innings and allowed one run, one inning short of earning the "quality" tag. Finally, opponents are hitting .177 against him, including a .147 mark for righties.

LET'S NEVER SPEAK OF THIS AGAIN: Before Friday night's win, the Hillcats had lost nine straight games, two shy of a team record... During the span, Lynchburg hit .213 (58-for-272), had an ERA of 6.85 (54 runs in 71 innings), and lost by an average of 4.9 runs... The worst of the losses was the ninth and final one by a score of 11-1 at the hands of the Mudcats on 5/7.

MAKE 'EM EARN IT: Lynchburg's five defensive miscues over the course of the doubleheaders on Wednesday plummeted the Hillcats to last in the league with a fielding percentage of .967...After making two more yesterday, the 'Cats have registered a league-worst 37 errors and four passed balls in 31 games...The Hillcats committed a season-worst four errors in a game on Wednesday, yet it somehow did not allow to any unearned runs...The Hillcats have allowed the most unearned runs in the Carolina League this season with 25...

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK: After posting 14 come-from-behind victories in the seventh inning or later last year, the Hillcats are 0-18 when trailing after six innings, joining the Winston-Salem Dash (0-13) as the only team in the league without a late-inning comeback victory...Last year, Lynchburg won 48 games in which they trailed at one point, including 30 in which the opponent was the first to score...Lynchburg has not overcome a multiple-run deficit all season and has only been able to come back from trailing by one on three occasions...The Hillcats are 3-16 when the opponent scores first this year...

TRIBE CONNECTIONS: Lynchburg may be new to the Cleveland organization, but plenty of Hillcats have strong connections with members of the parent club...RHP JUSTIN BRANTLEY tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless innings of relief Friday night and is the cousin of Indians outfielder MICHAEL BRANTLEY, who was an MLB All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award last season...RHP ADAM PLUTKO and RHP TREVOR BAUER were college teammates at UCLA for one season...While not a current Indian, MANNY RAMIREZ shares something in common with Hillcats 1B NELLIE RODRIGUEZ as they both attended George Washington High School in New York City...
