Hilbert selected to play in All-Star Game
January 27, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins announced today that left wing Andy Hilbert has been selected to play for the PlanetUSA Team at the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic. The 23-year-old native of Howell, Michigan will be making his third All-Star appearance in his four-year career. Hilbert leads the Bruins and ranks eighth in AHL scoring with 22-25-47 totals in 45 games.
Hilbert, who has scored a goal in three straight games, became the all-time career goal-scoring leader in Bruins history on January 21, when he tallied the 84th goal of his career. He currently ranks second in franchise history in overall scoring, with 86-92-178 totals in 200 games. Hilbert is eight points shy of tying the franchise scoring record held by the late Sergei Zholtok.
Hilbert was the Boston Bruins' third pick, 37th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He began his professional career in 2001-02 after playing two seasons at the University of Michigan. He played in the 2002 AHL All-Star Classic, and was named to the 2002 AHL All-Rookie Team after leading the Bruins with 26-27-53 totals in 72 games. Hilbert was again selected to play in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2003, and notched career-high 35-35-70 totals in 64 games with Providence that season. A severe groin injury suffered in the 2003-04 training camp kept Hilbert out of action until January, but he came back to play 18 games with the Boston Bruins and 19 with Providence. He also scored his first NHL playoff goal, and helped Team U.S.A. win the Bronze Medal at the World Championships.
Hilbert has 86-92-178 totals in 200 career AHL/Providence Bruins games, and 3-3-6 totals in 38 career NHL games with Boston.
The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be held at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire on February 13-14. The Skills Competition will be held on February 13, while the All-Star Game will be on the 14th.
The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 28 at 7:05 p.m., and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday, January 30 at 4:05 p.m.
Friday's game will be Dunkin' Donuts Mug Night. All fans in attendance will receive a free Providence Bruins mug, courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts. Friday's game will also be televised live on COX Sports Television, with Corey Masse and Boston Bruins legend and Hockey Hall of Fame member Gerry Cheevers calling the action.
Following Sunday's game, Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen and defenseman Milan Jurcina will sign autographs free of charge on the Dunkin' Donuts Center concourse behind Section 110.
