Alexander Svitov Named to PlanetUSA All-Star Team

Syracuse, NY (January 27, 2005) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the American Hockey League has selected center Alexander Svitov to the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic.

Svitov, 22, has appeared in 37 games with Syracuse this season, recording 12 goals, 12 assists and 115 penalty minutes. Last season, Svitov saw time with Hamilton (30gp, 9g, 9a, 79PIM's), Tampa Bay (11gp, 3a, 4PIM's) and Columbus (29gp, 2g, 6a, 16PIM's). A native of Omsk, Russia, Svitov was acquired by Columbus from Tampa Bay, along with a third round draft choice in 2004 for Darryl Sydor and a fourth round pick in 2004 on January 27, 2004. He was originally drafted by Tampa Bay, third overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Of the 328 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the NHL, including 14 of the Crunch's 17 representatives.

The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in

Manchester, N.H., home of the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.

The Crunch returns home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, January 29.
