Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Zach Parise has been selected as a starter for the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team at the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic to be played next month at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.

Parise, 20, leads all American Hockey League rookies with 21 assists and ranks second among all newcomers with 31 points in 41 games during the 2004-05 campaign. Those totals place him second on the River Rats in his first professional season out of the University of North Dakota (WCHA).

He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in both 2003 & 2004 and led Team USA to its first-ever gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native was drafted by the New Jersey Devils with their first choice (17th overall) in the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft and signed his first professional contract with New Jersey on March 29, 2004.

The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star squad comprises players born in the United States and Europe; the Canadian team was announced on Wednesday. AHL fans determined the starting lineups of both teams via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the rosters. All 28 teams are represented by at least one All-Star.

Former River Rat C Craig Darby will captain the PlanetUSA team, his fifth career AHL All-Star appearance, while the host Manchester Monarchs lead all teams with six selections between the two All-Star squads.

The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., home of the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.

The Albany River Rats, in their 12th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils.
