Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club has now won a franchise record 16 consecutive home games after defeating the Binghamton Senators 6-1 Sunday at Giant Center. With the victory, HERSHEY has also won eight straight games and 20 of its last 21 games dating back to December 12. The BEARS have scored 59 goals in their last eight games heading into Wednesday night's game in Norfolk against the Admirals.
It's a light week of games this week for the American Hockey League's top team. After a quick one-game trip to Norfolk, the BEARS return home this Saturday night to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins along HERSHEYPARK Drive. Tickets for Saturday's game are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
A January to remember: In the midst of the greatest run of wins in team history, the BEARS completed the month of January with a 13-1-0-0 record. HERSHEY'S only loss during the month came January 13 in Norfolk against the Admirals. The BEARS return to Norfolk this Wednesday night.
16 straight wins at home: It has been more than two months since the BEARS last lost a home game, winning every game along HERSHEYPARK Drive dating back to November 29. The BEARS were 7-0-0-0 during December at home and 8-0-0-0 during January. Overall, the Chocolate and White have lost just five games in regulation since Halloween, a span of 92 days.
Practice schedule: The BEARS will skate Tuesday morning at Giant Center this week in preparations for Wednesday's road game in Norfolk. The practice Tuesday will be the only media availability this week with the team's travel schedule. Practice is scheduled to begin at 9:30 on Tuesday.
Aucoin reaches 600 points: With a goal and two assists Sunday, center Keith Aucoin became just the 42nd player in American Hockey League history to accumulate 600 or more points in a single season. Aucoin became the first player on Sunday in the AHL in more than four years to reach the 600 summit. Craig Darby was the last player to reach 600 points, on January 29, 2006.
Holtby recalled, Neuvirth in: The Capitals on Sunday swapped goaltenders with HERSHEY, recalling Braden Holtby to D.C. and assigning Michal Neuvirth. Neuvirth, who defeated Anaheim and Florida last week for the Caps, earned his 11th win of the season for HERSHEY Sunday in a win over the Binghamton Senators. Holtby backed up Jose Theodore Sunday in Washington's 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.
