February 1, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Adam McQuaid on an emergency basis. With the move, the P-Bruins have 24 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
McQuaid, 23, returns to Boston for the fourth time this season after a brief one-day assignment to Providence. The third-year blue-liner went scoreless with an even rating in Providence's 6-0 shutout of the Springfield Falcons on Sunday afternoon. McQuaid has appeared in 31 games for the P-Bruins this season, totaling 10 points (3g, 7a) and 66 penalty minutes.
The native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, has suited up in eight games for Boston this year after receiving his first career NHL promotion on December 15, 2009. McQuaid made his NHL debut on December 19, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and he has accumulated 14 PIM during his time in Boston.
In his professional career, McQuaid has appeared in 185 regular season games with 34 points (8g, 26a) and 294 PIM, along with three assists and 35 PIM in 26 playoff contests. Last season, the defenseman set personal-highs with four goals, 11 assists, 15 points and 141 PIM in 78 regular season games to earn Providence's Fan Appreciation Award. As a rookie with the P-Bruins in 2007-08, McQuaid was named the team's Man of the Year and Community Service Award winner. He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets 55th overall in round two of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was later traded by Columbus to Boston on May 16, 2007 for the 129th overall pick (Jamie Benn) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The P-Bruins return to action on Friday against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. for Rhode Island Lottery Hat Night with hats free to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. On Saturday, Providence begins a home-and-home series with the Worcester Sharks, starting with a 7:05 p.m. tilt at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins host the Sharks on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. for Jumbocard Day with jumbocards free to the first 1,000 kids age 12 and under.
