Heat Snuffed By Aeros 3-1

Abbotsford Heat News Release

HOUSTON TX: The Abbotsford Heat left the state of Texas the same way they entered it, on a winless streak.

The streak is up to five as the Heat fell to the Houston Aeros 3-1 in AHL action on Monday night in the Lone Star State.

The Heat once again out shot and out chanced their opponents...this time the shot clock red 31-18 HEAT, but Aeros goaltender Wade Dubielewicz was the difference maker, turning aside all but one HEAT shot.

Chad Rau, Nathan Smith and Cody Almond scored for the Aeros, while Staffan Kronwall scored the only goal of the game for the HEAT on a five-on-three power play early in the second period.

The Heat players or coaching staff will never make excuses for the winless streak, which has now reached 5 games (0-4-1), but consider this...the Heat played this game with seven regular players out of their lineup.

John Negrin (upper body) and Riley Armstrong (lower body), joined John Armstrong (shoulder), Matt Pelech (pinched nerve), as well as Kris Chucko, Carsen Germyn and Brett Palin (all with concussions) out of the lineup for the HEAT.

With the departure of Keith Aulie and the reassignment of Leland Irving, the Abbotsford HEAT are nearly half turned over on their roster with 30 games left in the season.

Despite the injuries, the HEAT are playing inspired hockey, outplaying their opponents but just missing getting results.

The Heat will now head home for four games.

First up, Chris Chelios and the Chicago Wolves make a visit to the AESC.

The 48 year old Chelios is fifth in the AHL with a +25 rating, so he can still shutdown the best players in the league.

Faceoff for both Wolves games will be at 7:30 pm, live from the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
