
Hershey Rallies Past Sound Tigers

HERSHEY, PA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-3 on the road to the Hershey Bears Wednesday as the home team scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second period, two of which came on the power play.
Former Bear David Masse gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead by redirecting a Bruno Gervais shot for his second goal of the season 4:34 into the game.
Hershey tied the scored at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by David Steckel, his sixth tally of the year, with 6:20 left in the opening frame, but the Sound Tigers regained the lead at 2-1 just 25 seconds later when Jeremy Colliton pushed home the rebound of his own shot for his second goal in as many games and sixth of the season off assists from Travis Brigley, another former Bear, and Steve Regier.
The Sound Tigers took their largest lead of the evening at 3-1 on a power-play goal by Sean Bergenheim, his fourth marker of the year, 5:43 into the second period off assists from Tomi Pettinen and Colliton. However, Hershey cut the lead to 3-2 on Boyd Gordon's sixth goal of the season 54 seconds past the mid-point of the game off assists from Eric Fehr and Mike Green.
The Sound Tigers took three penalties in a 2:37 span late in the middle frame, and the Bears took advantage with a pair of power-play goals as Graham Mink tied the score at 3-3 with his team-leading 14th on a five-on-three at the 13:48 mark off assists from Gordon and Chris Bourque and Green added his second at 16:38 off assists from Jared Aulin and Fehr.
Hershey captain Boyd Kane was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct minor and ten-minute misconduct with 1:50 left to play giving the Sound Tigers a late power play, but it was the Bears who converted as Steckel scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-3 with 1:08 left to play. Mark Wotton and Mink assisted on the shorthanded icer.
Steckel was the first star of the game, Green the second and Gordon the third. Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi stopped 25 of 28 shots for the win while Chris Madden took the loss despite a 34-save effort for the Sound Tigers. The Bears were 2 for 7 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 1 for 6.
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of four straight road games when they visit the Lowell Lock Monsters this Friday at 7:35 p.m. Their next home games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be this Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd and 4th when they will host this Philadelphia Phantoms Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The Sound Tigers will also be home next Wednesday, December 7th to host Hershey at 11 a.m. in the third-annual, educationally-themed "Cool Fun 101" morning game.
