Norfolk Admirals News Release
Andy Hilbert scored the natural hat trick and added an assist as the Admirals defeated Binghamton 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Admirals got on board first in the opening period. Nick Kuiper took a shot from the point that was tipped by Colin Fraser through Binghamton goaltender Jeff Glass' pads to give the home team a 1-0 lead at 5:27. Norfolk scoring leader Nathan Barrett doubled the lead to 2-0 about seven minutes later on the power play. Andy Hilbert set up shop behind the Senators net and threaded a pass to Barrett at the top of the crease. Barrett one-timed the puck into the back of the net at 12:51. However, the Senators pulled to within one goal on a Patrick Eaves power play goal with 46 seconds remaining in the frame. Norfolk took a 2-1 lead into the second period.
After a scoreless second stanza, both teams began finding the back of the net in the final frame. Binghamton briefly assumed the lead with two goals in less than thirty seconds in the third minute of the period. However, Andy Hilbert put the Admirals back in front for good. His first goal came on one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Martin St. Pierre on the power play at 5:42. St. Pierre again found Hilbert four minutes later. With Binghamton defenders draped over his shoulders, Hilbert sent a wrister from the blue line that alluded Glass at 9:43. He completed the natural hat trick three minutes later on the power play. Glass stopped Nathan Barrett's shot but left the rebound in the crease. Hilbert banged home the rebound at 12:26 to complete the goal-scoring trifecta. Although Binghamton scored just 16 seconds later, they were unable to get the equalizer. Despite being out-shot 39-28 in the game, the Admirals held on to a 5-4 victory.
Adam Munro stopped 35 of Binghamton's 39 shots en route to the win. Jeff Glass finished with 23 saves and picked up the loss for the Senators.
Both Norfolk and Binghamton were 2-8 on the power play.
