Chris Leroux pitched seven shutout innings in the 2-0 Bison's win over the Clippers on Wednesday.

The Bisons shutout the Columbus Clippers 2-0 at Huntington Park on Wednesday, thanks to a terrific start by righty Chris Leroux. RBI from Matt Dominguez and a home run by Junior Lake proved to be enough for Buffalo, who have now won 13 of their last 18 ballgames.

Chris Leroux delivered seven shutout innings for the Herd. The veteran surrendered just five hits, only allowing runners in scoring position twice. Leroux stranded runners on first and second in the third. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Yandy Diaz tripled to right field. However, Leroux induced Joey Butler to fly out to right, stranding the tying run on base. Leroux retired the next 10 hitters following the Diaz triple, and moves his record to an even 3-3 on the campaign.

Clippers' starter Will Roberts hurled scoreless ball for the first three innings. Darrell Ceciliani walked, stole second, and then advanced to third on a wild pitch to lead off the top of the fourth inning. A Matt Dominguez RBI single scored Ceciliani, putting the Herd up 1-0. Junior Lake led off the top of the fifth with a no-doubt home run to left field, increasing the Bisons' lead to 2-0. Dalton Pompey also picked up a pair of hits, with Casey Kotchman doubling in the second for the only other Bison hit.

Roberts escaped danger in the seventh, striking out Dalton Pompey with runners on second and third. The Clippers' starter left after allowing five hits and two earned runs over seven inning of work. Roberts falls to 4-2 on the season, though he still holds a respectable 2.95 ERA in 2016.

Tom Gorzelanny relieved Roberts in the top of the eighth inning, putting down the Herd in order. Josh Martin also pitched a perfect ninth for Columbus.

Buffalo turned to Ryan Terpera in the eighth inning, and after a one-two-three eighth, Tepera shut down the Clippers in the ninth, recording his fourth save of the year.

Though the club lost, Columbus' right fielder Collin Cowgill provided home fans with a defensive highlight in the sixth inning. Cowgill made a diving catch to rob Matt Dominguez of potential extra bases, ending the frame.

In the series finale on Thursday, Drew Hutchison will square-off against Jarrett Grube. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. from Huntington Park.

BISONS NOTES:

Devon Travis was activated off the disabled and recalled to the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Travis played in four rehab games with Single-A Dunedin, before starting in five rehab games with the Bisons this week. Travis is recovering from left shoulder surgery performed last October... Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte returned to the Herd on Wednesday after being optioned by Toronto. Venditte posted a 3.86 ERA in eight games with Buffalo earlier this season... Junior Lake, who picked up his fourth home run of the season on Wednesday, now has 12 hits in his last 32 at bats. Chris Leroux has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four games, including three shutout innings in relief in a May 9 game against Durham.
