SWB Bounces Back with Win over Bats
May 25, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) shook off a Tuesday night loss to Louisville by bouncing the Bats 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Field. The win clinched the season series for the RailRiders (27-20) against the Bats (23-22). SWB is 4-2 against the Cincinnati Reds' top affiliate and 9-3 International League West division overall.
Phil Coke (3-0) earned the win by limiting the Bats to a run on four hits over five innings. He struck out four without allowing a walk. The Reds' Anthony DeSclafani (0-1) made a rehab start for Louisville. The right-hander allowed three runs on three hits over three innings with two strikeouts.
The three runs DeSclafani allowed all came on a first inning home run to right-center by Chris Parmelee. The round-tripper was the third in two games against Louisville for the RailRiders' first baseman.
After the Bats got a run back in the top of the fourth, SWB responded with a tally against reliever Stephen Johnson. An errant pitch hit Cesar Puello with one out. Deibinson Romero drove him in with a triple to center that went under the dive of Hernan Iribarren.
Ben Gamel began the fifth with a walk and stole second. A fielding error by Seth Mejias-Brean on a grounder from Puello allowed Gamel to score with two out.
Leading 5-1, SWB put the game away with a pair of bases-loaded singles by Gamel and Aaron Judge in the eighth frame.
The bullpen combo of Conor Mullee, Neal Cotts and Anthony Swarzak held the Bats scoreless for the final four innings. They retired 12 straight to finish the game.
The RailRiders and Bats meet for the final time in the 2016 regular season on Thursday night. It's "Thirsty Thursday" at PNC Field with a first pitch time of 6:35 p.m. Left-hander Tyler Olson (1-1, 4.66) makes the start. He will oppose right-hander Jon Moscot (0-2, 9.82) who is on Major League rehab assignment for the Reds. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
