Indianapolis Indians News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Red Wings had to hold off a late rally by the Indianapolis Indians on Wednesday evening. The Red Wings prevailed, 9-8, but they held a 7-0 lead after two innings, and a 9-3 advantage entering the ninth inning before Indianapolis nearly completed the improbable comeback.

Tommy Field belted a three-run homer in the big first frame for Rochester (26-20), and Adam Brett Walker followed with his league-leading 10th home run of the season to cap the first inning's scoring.

Top Minnesota Twins prospect Byron Buxton blasted a two-run homer in the top of the second to expand the Red Wings' advantage.

Indianapolis (22-22) got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Jason Rogers doubled to left field to plate Josh Bell, and Rogers would score on a single by Max Moroff.

Later in the game, the Red Wings plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to extend the advantage back to six, but the Tribe rallied in the ninth. Five runs crossed, highlighted by Ed Easley's hit that brought the Tribe within one run. The improbable comeback fell short, as the game ended with the tying run at third base and the go-ahead run at first base.

Kelvin Marte (1-1) was a late addition as the Indianapolis starter, and he was handed the loss. Marte conceded seven runs before exiting in the third inning. He started in place of Kyle Lobstein, who was recalled prior to the game by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jason Wheeler (3-1) worked six innings for Rochester and received the victory.

The Indians and Red Wings will play the finale of their three-game series on Thursday morning. First pitch in Rochester is set for 11:05 a.m., and Chad Kuhl (3-1, 0.99) will put his league-leading earned run average on the line against Twins prospect, Jose Berrios (3-0, 1.23).
