April 17, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens edged the Durham Bulls by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field. The first-place Hens move to 8-3 on the season. LHP Ryan Carpenter got the start for Toledo, scattering only five hits in six innings while fanning nine Durham hitters.
LHP Ryan Carpenter got the nod for the home team on Tuesday, going six strong innings in the cold and scattering five hits with one run and nine strikeouts. Kevin Comer relieved Carpenter, striking out the side in the seventh and fanning two in the eighth, getting the win for the home team. Louis Coleman finished out the game with a four-out save. Hens pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts on Tuesday night.
Durham saw Forrest Snow get the start, going five innings and allowing only one Mud Hen hit.
Durham struck first in the second inning on an RBI single off the bat of Jake Cronenworth. Carpenter had retired the first two batters of the inning, but a walk and two singles allowed the Bulls to take a 1-0 lead.
Toledo threatened in the bottom half of the second, following a single from SS Ronny Rodriguez, his fifth stolen base of the season, and a walk issued to C Jarrod Saltalamacchi. However, the Hens stranded the runners after a groundout from DH Jason Krizan.
Offense was scarce for the Hens through the first 5 2/3 innings, until 2B Dawel Lugo and 1B Jim Adduci reached base on consecutive errors by Durham, allowing Lugo to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. This went as an unearned run for the Durham Bulls.
Toledo broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh and never looked back when LF Christin Stewart hit his second home run of the season down the right field line, pushing the Hens lead to 2-1.
Our first homestand of the season concludes tomorrow with a 6:35 p.m. game against Durham.
