Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Norfolk Tides scored four runs in the top of the seventh to pull away in Game 2 of a three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park. The Pigs need a win in the rubber match tomorrow night to capture their second straight series.

Zach Eflin (2-1) went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) but suffered his first loss of the season. Josh Edgin tossed two innings of relief for the Tides and improved to 2-0 on the season.

Eflin pitched well in his third start of the season despite the result. He scattered four hits and struck out four. Eflin has yet to allow more than two runs in a start this season and has 1.69 ERA.

Lehigh Valley's best chance to score came in the third inning when in the Pigs had two runners on and Mitch Walding at the plate. Riding a six-game hitting streak and hitting over .400 at home, Walding laced a line drive that was caught by the first basemen Garabez Rosa to end the threat.

The Pigs left 10 runners on base and hit 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. In their five losses the Pigs are 4-for-46 with RISP.

The Tides' big inning came in the seventh against Ranfi Casimiro. In his second inning of relief, he allowed the first five hitters he faced to reach base safely in a four-run frame.

Dean Anna continued to swing a hot bat for the Pigs. Already with a six-game hitting streak, Anna reached base three times and extended his hitting streak to a team-high seven games. During this homestand, Anna has appeared in five games and is batting .350 with seven hits.

Nick Rickles made his professional pitching debut for the Pigs, tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Rickles did allow one baserunner but stranded him at second base after inducing a pair of groundouts.

Tom Eshelman makes his third start of the season Wednesday night in the series finale against Norfolk. Eshelman's last start came last Friday night against Louisville. Yefry Ramirez will start the game for Norfolk. It's Dance Night at the park and the first 3,000 fans 18 and older will receive Bacon caps compliments of Hatfield Quality Meats. Gates for the final game of the opening homestand will open at 5:45 p.m.
