The Lehigh Valley IronPigs can win their second straight series tonight after taking Game 1 from the Norfolk Tides 7-3 last night.
Winners of four of five at home this season the Pigs will send right-hander Zach Eflin to the mound looking for his third win of the season. David Hess will start the game for the Norfolk Tides. Eflin (2-0) is coming off a win in the home opener against the Louisville Bats. He allowed just five hits and one run over six innings. In 11 innings this season, Eflin has struck out 10 and has a 1.64 ERA.
Hess will make his first career start against the IronPigs and his second in the International League. The 24-year-old is the No. 15 prospect in the Orioles system according to Baseball America. Hess went 11-9 last season for Bowie, making 26 starts for the Baysox. Hess took a no-decision in his first Triple-A start, striking out seven and allowing three hits in five innings.
LAST NIGHT: The Lehigh Valley IronPigs came from behind once again to pick up their fourth win in five tries. Trailing twice in the ballgame, Lehigh Valley rallied to defeat the Norfolk Tides 7-3 and improve to 6-4 on the season and 4-1 at home.
Mitch Walding and Dylan Cozens continued to swing hot bats as they both went deep and drove in three for the Pigs. Walding, who drove in three runs, put the Pigs ahead on two different occasions. Trailing by one in the fourth, Walding drove his second home run of the season into right-center field to give the Pigs a 3-2 lead. After Norfolk evened the score in the top of the fifth, Walding singled to center field, scoring Jesmuel Valentin for his third RBI.
Austin Davis gave the Pigs two scoreless innings of relief and did not allow a hit while striking out three. In five appearances this season, Davis has a 2.57 ERA in seven innings with eight strikeouts.
TONIGHT AT THE PARK: It's Wrestling Night at Coca-Cola Park. The pregame festivities will kick off with a parade of area youth wrestling teams to recognize area competitors. Gates open up at 5:45 p.m..
The Pigs play one more home contest Wednesday before embarking on a six-game road trip. The team returns home on Friday, April 27 when the Scranton-Wilkes/Barre RailRiders make their first of three 2018 trips to Coca-Cola Park.
