St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - Randy Dobnak continued to provide steady starting pitching for the St. Paul Saints on Sunday. Michael Helman provided the power, a big three-run homer in the sixth. Add the two together and the Saints defeated the Nashville Sounds 4-3 on in game on of a doubleheader at CHS Fiel. The win improves the Saints to 18-12 on the season.
With the Saints down 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, they were able to come back against Major League rehabber Gus Varland. He walked the first two hitters, but a double play by Kyle Garlick left the Saints with a runner at third and two outs. Andrew Stevenson was hit by a pitch which brought up Helman. He clubbed a three-run homer to left, his third of the season, that proved to be the difference.
The Sounds struck first with a solo homer to right-center off the bat of Eddy Alvarez, his third of the season, making it 1-0.
Kyle Farmer proved he is getting closer to being ready as he tied the game up in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer just inside the pole, his first on Major League rehab.
Dobnak was solid after the first inning and didn't allow more than one runner on in the second through fifth.
In the sixth the Sounds regained the lead. Eddy Alvarez led off with a walk and Jon Singleton singled him to third. Dobnak got Keston Huira to hit a grounder to Farmer at third, who threw out Alvarez at the plate. Dobnak was removed for Josh Winder who gave up an RBI double to Abraham Toro and an RBI single to Andruw Monasterio giving the Sounds a 3-1 lead. Dobnak went 5.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out four.
