St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints were looking for a sweep of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at CHS Field. Unfortunately, the Nashville Sounds had other ideas as they put the game away early with a six-run first inning. They Saints dropped the finale of the series 7-1 in front of 6,037. The loss drops the Saints to 18-13 on the season.
The Sounds jumped on Aaron Sanchez in the first inning utilizing four walks. Sanchez walked Andruw Monasterio to lead off the game. After back-to-back strikeouts, Sanchez walked the next three hitters, the latter forcing in a run making it 1-0. Patrick Dorrian then hit a grand slam to right-center, his third of the season, giving the Sounds a 5-0 lead. Brent Diaz then followed with a solo homer to center, his first of the season, making it 6-0. Sanchez lasted 0.2 innings allowing six runs on two hits while walking four and striking out two.
The Saints got one back in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a leadoff homer from Edouard Julien, his fourth of the season, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
The Sounds, however, got a solo homer in the second from Monasterio, his second of the season, increasing the Sounds lead to 7-1.
The Saints bullpen did a remarkable job going 6.1 innings allowing one run on one run while striking out eight. Austin Schulfer went 2.2 scoreless innings allowing four hits while walking one and striking out three.
The Saints are off on Monday and return to action on Tuesday night at CHS Field against the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 6:37 p.m. Both teams are TBA.
