Charlotte's Offense Sinks Stripers 18-11 Sunday

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - The Charlotte Knights recorded a season-high 23 hits and scored a season-high 18 runs en route to an 18-11 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday in the finale of the six-game series from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The win was Charlotte's fourth in the series and it guaranteed the Knights a winning road trip, four games to two.

The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring six runs against Gwinnett RHP Tanner Gordon (0-1, 60.75). Gordon, who was making his Triple-A debut, allowed a total of 10 runs (nine earned) over 1.1 innings pitched. Charlotte scored 10 runs over the first two innings of the game and every offensive player in the starting lineup had at least two hits for the Knights on Sunday.

Right fielder Zach Remillard, who had three hits in Saturday's game, added another three-hit day on Sunday. Remillard also scored three of Charlotte's 18 runs. Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada continued his MLB Rehab assignment and went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, one home run and two RBIs. Moncada connected on a two-run blast in Charlotte's five-run fifth inning.

Other offensive stars for the Knights on Sunday were Víctor Reyes (3-for-6 with three RBI), Nate Mondou (2-for-4 with four runs scored, one home run and two RBI) and Oscar Colás (2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI). Additionally, Erik González, Sebastián Rivero and Jake Marisnick had three-RBI games on Sunday.

RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon (1-2, 5.74) earned his first win of the season after he tossed five strong innings. Ponce de Leon allowed just three runs over his five innings of work.

Chicago White Sox RHP Liam Hendriks continued his MLB rehab assignment and pitched the seventh inning on Sunday. Hendriks allowed one run on two hits in the inning. He threw 14 pitches, nine for strikes.

The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening up a six-game home series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Tuesday evening.
