Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - Riku Helenius made 39 through regulation and overtime but Kevin Baker was the hero in overtime, converting on a one-timer from Peter Metcalf for the game winner at 4:30 of overtime as the Florida Everblades defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday evening.
Alex Parent got the Sea Wolves on the board when his wrist shot along the ice beat Everblades goalie David Leggio through the legs for a power-play goal at 18:30 of the first frame.
Despite eight power plays in the first two periods, the Sea Wolves were unable to extend the lead, and the Everblades forced overtime with just 3:46 remaining in the third period when Andrew Sweetland found a rebound in front of the net an hammered it through the pads of Mississippi's Riku Helenius.
With Florida's Kevin Baker open in the left circle, Metcalf put a one-time pass in Baker's wheelhouse, which he drilled into the top corner for the game-winner at 4:30 of overtime.
Riku Helenius made 39 saves to earn an OT, and the Sea Wolves were 1-for-11 on the power play.
NOTEBOOK: Jeremy Duchesne, who won the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week award for the week ending December 14, was recalled to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League this morning... Ryan Munce was released from his professional tryout offer by the AHL's Syracuse Crunch yesterday and was on the bench as the backup to Riku Helenius... In two games with Syracuse, Munce was 0-2-0 with a .921 save percentage and 2.61 goals-against average.
