The Story:
Three points from Josh Zakreski and a 20-save effort from Jan Špunar helped the Winterhawks take a 4-1 win over the Victoria Royals in Game 4 on Wednesday, completing a first-round sweep of the Royals.
Tickets and confirmed home dates for Round 2 will be announced in the coming days, with opponents and full schedule to be determined pending results around the league.
Zakreski's double came in the first 7:31 of the contest, both in similar fashion. First, the 2024 NHL Draft prospect tapped home a Tyson Jugnauth cross-crease seam pass at 3:24, then finished off some hard work from Kyle Chyzowski from the same spot four minutes later.
Cole Reschny brought Victoria to life with a power-play goal late in the first, and neither team found much easy ground for the majority of the second. But with time winding down in the middle frame, Josh Davies notched a backbreaker with a deflection on Ryder Thompson's wrister from range at 16:35. Early in the third, Kyle Chyzowsk snuffed out any final frame miracles with a gritty goal in front at 2:32 to seal the win.
