Hawks Have Moe Fun

October 14, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Jared Moe was perfect and the Waterloo Black Hawks snagged their second win during two season-opening road games, topping the Dubuque Fighting Saints 2-0 at Mystique Center Friday. The first-year goalie made 30 saves in his first United States Hockey League appearance. During the opening period, Moe was busy. The Hawks' goalie made 13 stops during the first 20 minutes as the Saints outshot Waterloo 13-4.

Moe continued to perform well in the second, stopping 8 more chances including Quinn Preston's partial breakaway at 8:03. Four-and-a-half minutes later, Jack Drury broke through at the other end of the rink. Coming up left wing, the veteran stepped toward the net and lifted a backhander past Jaxon Castor. Matej Blumel helped to seal the win at 9:57 of the third. Stepping around a defender and right to the top of the crease, the forward slipped the puck under Castor.

Waterloo finished the game shorthanded and defending a six-on-four situation, but survived the final 1:54 unscathed. The same two teams meet on Saturday at Young Arena for an instant rematch. During the game, Coors Light will be $2 for fans age 21 and over in celebration of the Coors Light Cold Zone expanding.
