Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux City, IA-The Stampede tallied their 10th power play goal of the season, but came up just short in a five-round shootout, falling 2-1 to the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center. The Herd earned three of a possible four points on the weekend and are 2-1-1 on the season. Kirill Panykov tallied the only goal of the game for the Stampede while Mikhail Berdin stopped 32 of 33 shots to help the Stampede earn a point.
For the fourth straight game to start the season, the Stampede grabbed the first goal of the game when Kirill Panyukov tallied his second goal of the season, on the power play at 7:21. Brandon Tabakin blasted a shot from the high slot that was stopped by Musketeers goaltender Matt Jurusik, but the rebound bounced to Panyukov who backhanded the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead for the Stampede . Much like the previous three games though, the Herd would be unable to take a two-goal advantage. Sioux City tied the game at 13:42 on a bit of a lucky bounce. Hayden Rowan fired a shot that was high of the net, but the puck bounced high in air in front of the net, past the stick of Mikhail Berdin and bounced right onto the tape of Solag Bakich who was able to slip it past a sliding Berdin to make it a 1-1 game. Sioux Falls outshot Sioux City 15-9 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second or third period for either team, but the game remained entertaining as Jurusik and Berdin continued to make big saves down the stretch to keep their team in the game and eventually force overtime.
It marked the first 3-on-3 overtime of the season for the Stampede and it was as entertaining as advertised. The Herd outshot the Musketeers 3-2, but couldn't get one to slip past Jurusik. The Musketeers nearly won the game in the final minutes, but Sampo Ranta missed on a breakaway and the game headed to a shootout.
The Herd struggled to hit the net in all five rounds of the shootout and Sioux City would eventually win it when Micah Miller's shot from the left circle sailed over the right shoulder of Berdin to give the Musketeers at 2-1 win.
Sioux City outshot the Stampede 34-31 on the night and finished 0-for-3 on the power play while the Herd were 1-for-3.
The Stampede return to action Thursday when they travel to Fargo to face the Force at 7:05 PM. Fans can catch the game live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM and KELO.com. The Herd return home on Friday to host Des Moines and Saturday to entertain Waterloo. On Saturday, kids can trick-or-treat in the concourse and take part in the on-ice costume parade during the first intermission. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
