South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - Wade Miley threw 5.0 perfect innings in game two of a doubleheader against the Quad Cities River Bandits, and the Hawks allowed just one hit in the game. South Bend took game one 6-4 and then blanked the Bandits 6-0 in game two to improve to a game over .500 for the first time in the second half.

Miley (WP, 4-7) pitched 5.0 perfect innings in game two, but was removed because the Arizona Diamondbacks have him on a strict inning count for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, Miley's bid for perfection was never going to be a reality because of the inning count. The lefthander struck out six in his time on the mound.

Even still, Bryan Woodall (SV, 2) came in and didn't miss a beat. Woodall struck out the first two batters he faced, before allowing a single to end the chance of a combined perfect game. Woodall bounced back to strike out the next three batters he faced, and ended up tossing 2.0 scoreless innings. Woodall has not allowed an earned run in his last 28.0 innings since June 5th, and hasn't allowed a run at all in his last 20.1 innings.

With the great pitching in game two, the Hawks didn't need much offense but still plated three runs on three hits in two different innings. In the third, Reynaldo Navarro had a two run double and A.J. Pollock had a sacrifice fly for the 3-0 lead. In the sixth, Rossmel Perez had a sacrifice fly and Nelson Gomez had a RBI single, with another run scoring on an error.

In game one, the Silver Hawks rallied from a 3-0 deficit to post the 6-4 victory. Quad Cities had a 2-0 lead when last night's game was suspended, and scored immediately when the game was resumed for a 3-0 advantage. South Bend came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, led by a RBI single by Alberto Diaz.

South Bend then took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on three straight RBI doubles. After Victor Estevez picked up the one out single, Alfredo Marte, Pollock, and Diaz all doubled in a row, each driving in a run for the three run lead.

Jordan Meaker (WP, 3-0) took over when the game resumed, and pitched 3.1 innings allowing only one unearned run for the victory. Victor Capellan (SV, 1) pitched two perfect innings at the end of the game to earn his first save.

The three game series wraps up Thursday night at 7:00 PM Eastern Time at Coveleski Stadium. RHP Ryan Cook (7-9, 4.01 ERA) will be on the mound for South Bend against RHP Jorge Rondon (0-1, 5.00 ERA) of Quad Cities. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and at www.silverhawks.com.
