
Bees Even Series With Victory over Whitecaps

Comstock Park, MI (July 29, 2009) - The Burlington Bees evened their three-game series with West Michigan defeating the Whitecaps 3-1 Wednesday night at Community Field. David Wood hit his fifth homerun of the season while Tim Melville recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in the game.
The Bees scored the first run of the day in the third inning. With one out, Fernando Garcia doubled and moved to third on a Patrick Norris base-hit. Adrian Ortiz then hit an RBI ground-out to score Garcia, which gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. West Michigan answered that run with a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
The Bees got the lead back scoring one run in the seventh inning. Jose Bonilla walked to lead the inning off and moved to third on a Shawn Griffin double. Ryan Wood, in his first game as a Bee, then hit a sacrifice fly to score Bonilla and the Bees led 2-1. The Bees put up their final run in the eighth inning when Wood hit a solo homerun with two outs. The homerun was Wood's fifth of the season.
Melville got the start for the Bees and pitched five innings. Melville allowed one run on four hits with a career-high eight strikeouts and two walks. Dusty Odenbach picked up his first win pitching two shutout innings allowing three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Louis Coleman pitched the final two innings. Coleman did not allow a hit while he had one strikeout and one walk. Coleman picked up his first save of the season.
The Bees had ten hits in the game outhitting West Michigan 10-7. Norris, Ortiz and Griffin each had two hits. All but two players in the lineup had at least one hit, run or RBI in the game for the Bees. As a team, the Bees had four stolen bases.
The Bees conclude the three-game series with West Michigan Thursday night. Mike Lehmann is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home for a four-game series with Quad Cities on Friday, August 7th.
