Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps moved to an astounding 40 games over .500 with a 4- 3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Wednesday at Parkview Field. Daniel Robertson went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and Brad Brach retired the side in the 9th to notch his 27th save of the year.
The TinCaps are now 71-31 on the season and improved upon the best record in all of full-season professional baseball.
Wisconsin took the lead in the top of the 2nd with a two-out rally. Jose Duran punched a single to right, stole second and scored on Michael Marseco's RBI double to right-center.
Fort Wayne came back with a flurry in the 3rd inning. After back-to-back walks, Robertson smashed a double to the gap in left-center to plate both runners and give the TinCaps a 2-1 lead. Jaff Decker followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-1.
The Timber Rattlers chipped away, scoring a run in the 4th on Erik Miller's sacrifice fly and another in the 7th on a single by Brett Lawrie which tied the game at 3-3. Wisconsin then loaded the bases in the 7th , but RHP Eduardo Perez buckled down and short-circuited the rally.
The TinCaps scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th . Justin Baum drew a leadoff walk and went to third when Allan Dykstra drilled a single to right. Two batters later, Robert Lara's groundout scored Baum to put the TinCaps back in front, 4-3.
In the 9th , Brach allowed a leadoff single to Juan Sanchez, but the next batter bounced into a double play. The TinCaps' closer then struck out Lawrie with a fastball over the outside corner to end the game.
Perez (4-1) grabbed the win, allowing a run in three innings of work; RHP Stiven Osuna took a no-decision, snapping a streak on which he won six straight starts. Wisconsin LHP Efrain Nieves (4-6) was saddled with the loss. Brach netted his 27th save.
With the win, the TinCaps upped their record to 71-31, 26-6 in the second half. The Timber Rattlers dropped to 47-53, 13-18 in the half.
