July 29, 2009 - Buddy Boshers' pitching and Gabe Jacobo's bat helped lead the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 4-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars in front of 2,841 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night. The win snapped a Kernel two game losing streak as they improved to 18-13 in the second half and 58-43 overall.

Boshers (1-0) scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings, walking only one and striking out four for his first win as a Kernel. Andrew Taylor struck out four over two innings of relief for his fourth save. Kane County starter Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (2-5) allowed two runs on six hits over 5.2 innings to take the loss.

Jacobo kick-started the offense with a solo home run in the bottom of the first and drove in a critical insurance run with a triple in the eighth. Alexi Amarista went 3-4 with a double, RBI and stolen base and Beau Brooks was 1-4 with an RBI. Mike Spina had three of the Cougars five hits, going 3-4 with a double.

The Kernels wrap up a six game home stand against Kane County on Thursday at 6:35 pm. It's a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. draft beer is just $1.50 all game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
