South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that catcher Chris Davis has returned to South Bend from double-A Mobile and catcher Tyson Van Winkle has been returned to short season A Yakima.

Davis played in three games for Mobile, after being promoted on July 15th to fill a role vacated by an injury. In 10 at-bats with the BayBears, Davis had two hits and one RBI. In 37 games for South Bend, Davis is hitting .174 with one home run and nine RBIs. He was selected in the 35th round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft from Central Arkansas.

Van Winkle was selected this June in the 10th Round of the First Year Player Draft from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. With Yakima, Van Winkle hit .250 with no home runs and six RBIs. He also has stolen three bases, walking seven times in 19 games. Van Winkle played in six games for South Bend, with one hit and one RBI in 17 at-bats.

Van Winkle was in last night's starting lineup when the game was suspended in the top of the fourth inning. League rules would allow Davis to fill that spot, despite not being on the original lineup card from yesterday.

The South Bend roster currently stands at 25 active players plus one on the disabled list. The Midwest League limit is 25 active players.

The Silver Hawks continue their suspended game with Quad Cities tonight at 5 PM Eastern Time. The first game will be played through nine innings, and the regularly scheduled game for tonight will follow and be played through a shortened seven inning contest.
