Hawks Double up T-Birds in Big Rivalry Win

February 29, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Seth Jarvis scored his second WHL hat trick and ninth multi-goal game in 2020 to help the Winterhawks topple the Thunderbirds 6-3 in a Saturday night win.

Portland wasted no time scoring a few in Seattle. Leading scorer Jarvis continued his dominance with Jaydon Dureau by connecting for the Hawks first goal of the night. With energy, Portland added to its lead less than five minutes later on a Kishaun Gervais rebound tally. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead with them into the intermission break.

The Hawks added a few more in the second period. After Seattle got on the scoreboard three minutes into the period on a 2-on-1 rush, Jarvis and Gilliss responded with goals of their own to stretch the Hawks advantage to 4-1 after 40 minutes. Seattle crept back into the game in the third, scoring two goals within two minutes of each other, making it 4-3, but Portland tucked in an insurance marker late in regulation.

Jake Gricius rushed in off the wing, skated behind the net and swept a chance in front for Robbie Fromm-Delorme to blast in. With a two goal cushion, Jarvis capped off his hat trick by shooting it in the empty net to give Portland its second straight win on the road.

The Winterhawks wrap up their three-in-three road trip in Everett for an early Sunday evening against the second place Silvertips.
