Early Lead Slips in Loss to Warriors

SWIFT CURRENT, SK. - For the second straight game, the Swift Current Broncos (10-45-1-3) jumped out to an early lead in the first period, but the Moose Jaw Warriors (14-39-4-0) battled back again and the Broncos finished 0-for-4 on the power play in a 4-2 loss.
For the second game in a row the Broncos jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period. Sam McGinley's shot from the blue line was tipped down by Aiden Bulych before Bulych and D-Jay Jerome jammed at it in the crease. It slid through the five hole of Boston Bilous and Bulych was credited for his 12th of the year.
Moose Jaw answered back 11 seconds after a power play had expired. Eric Alarie picked up the puck on the right wing of the Broncos zone before backhanding it across the slot for Logan Doust who beat Isaac Poulter on the glove side along the ice to tie the game.
Off the following faceoff, Poulter turned aside a 2-on-1 rush to keep the game tied, but the Warriors took the lead a minute later. After a turnover in the neutral zone, Martin Lang heeled a shot that floated over the net.
The rebound was picked up by Tate Popple who centred for Ryder Korczak, and he snuck a shot past Poulter's blocker to give the Warriors the lead just 1:10 after the tied the game. Shots read 12-5 Broncos heading into the first intermission.
Swift Current pulled even in the second after Matthew Benson's shot from the blue line missed the net, but bounced off the end boards to Kye Buchanan who tapped the puck into an open net 4:54 into the second.
The lead didn't last long as the Warriors top line went to work, stole the puck behind the Broncos net and Popple took a centring pass from Korczak to restore the Warriors lead 2:26 after the Broncos tied the game.
The Broncos ran into penalty trouble late in the period with Parker Hendren and Alex Moar taking penalties 1:27 apart to give the Warriors a short five-on-three power play. They were able to kill off the two-man advantage, but the Warriors stretched their lead on the second power play.
Alarie had the puck on the goal line before sliding it across the seam for Calder Anderson on the back door to give Moose Jaw a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
Swift Current had a pair of power-play opportunities to try and close the gap in the third period, but couldn't connect as they fell 4-2. Final shots were even at 34.
The Broncos now begin a three-game road swing in Medicine Hat on Tuesday.
