Portland Stays Perfect against Tri-City

February 29, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Winterhawks take care of business, beating the Americans 3-1 on the road to start the three-in-three weekend.

The goaltenders were dialed in through 40 minutes as they combined for 43 saves on 44 shots. The lone goal to that point came with 21 seconds left in the second period. Seth Jarvis tracked a puck deep in the zone and elevated it to the top shelf to give Portland a 1-0 lead. It was his 37th goal of the season, which is the third most in the WHL. Dante Giannuzzi responded with a pair of impressive saves before the horn to keep the Hawks ahead.

Opening minutes of the third, Mason Mannek stripped a puck in neutral ice and scored short side on a shorthanded breakaway to put the Hawks up 2-0. In the final five of regulation, Tri-City cashed in on the power play to bring it back to a one-goal game, but the Hawks silenced any comeback hopes on the Americans Breast Cancer Awareness game.

Jaydon Dureau tossed it in to the empty net to give the Winterhawks a 3-1 victory, their 41st win of the season. Portland travels to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. The game will also be televised on Portland's CW.
