
Hamilton downed in Shootout

HAMILTON, ON - Despite holding the lead twice, the Bulldogs were edged 3-2 in a shootout at Copps Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Bulldogs defenceman Trevor Daley opened the scoring on the power play with his second goal of the season at 4:50 of the first period. Steve Ott threaded a pass to Daley who one-timed a hard shot past Crunch netminder Karl Goehring. Chris Higgins also added an assist on the goal.
With 19 seconds left in the opening period, Crunch forward Mike Pandolfo evened the score when he chipped in a rebound at the side of the Bulldogs net. The goal was PandolfoÃs fifth of the season and was assisted by Peter and Chris Ferraro.
The Bulldogs restored their one goal lead at 15:00 of the second period when Tomas Plekanec was sent in on a breakaway and beat Goehring with a high shot. Jason Ward added an assist on PlekanecÃs team leading eleventh goal of the season.
The Crunch tied the score 2-2 at 7:13 of the third period when forward Joe Motzko tallied his tenth goal of the season. Brad Moran and Jamie Pushor assisted on the lone goal of the third period.
After a scoreless overtime period, the game was forced into a shootout. The Bulldogs and Crunch were tied at one after the first five shooters. In the sudden death round, Joe Motzko scored the eventual game winner that would lift the Crunch over the Bulldogs 3-2.
Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis made 29 saves on 31 shots while suffering his ninth loss of the season. Crunch back-stopper Karl Goehring stopped 21 of 23 shots earning his sixth win of the season.
Forward Tomas Plekanec has four goals in his last five games for the Bulldogs. Eleven different players recorded a single point in the game. With the loss, the Bulldogs record after 35 games drops to 13-15-4-3.
The Bulldogs will travel to Newfoundland on Tuesday, January 4th, for the first of a two game road trip against the St. JohnÃs Maple Leafs. The puck drops at 6:05 p.m. eastern time. Bulldogs fans can listen to Derek Wills call all the action, beginning with the pre-game show at 5:50 p.m. on 820 CHAM in Hamilton, Team 990 in Montreal and on the Internet.
