January 9, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

A new chapter of Owen Sound Attack hockey began tonight as the Kitchener Rangers visited town to take on a team shaped by recent trades. The third of six meetings in just over a month, Kitchener had won the first two and Owen Sound was hungry for revenge.

The new, younger Attack came out of the gates quickly tonight and German import Manuel Alberg scored his first career OHL goal after a great move through the neutral zone to stake the Attack a 1-0 lead. Brady Lyle struck five minutes later for his 8th of the season and the boys were off. Kitchener would get one late in the frame after a scramble in front of the net led to Jonathan Yantsis potting his 27th of the season, but Kaleb Pearson got it back just 23 seconds later and the Attack led 3-1 after the first period.

Yantsis began the second where he left off in the first, scoring his 28th of the year just over a minute in while continuing to be a thorn in Owen Sound's side. It remained a one goal game for most of the second, but Andrew Perrott got his first of the season and first with the Attack at 14:45 and the lead was restored to two. Shots after two periods were 20-17 in favour of the Rangers.

The third period started with a Kitchener onslaught and never let up. They were pushing to tie the game but Mack Guzda was there to stand tall. Joseph Garreffa got one back for the Rangers but it was too little and Guzda shut them down the rest of the way for a 4-3 victory in the 3rd meeting between the two teams this year. Shots on goal in the final period were 18 to 4 for the Rangers, ending 38-21 for the Blueshirts.

The new look Owen Sound Attack came out strong tonight and earned a tough 4-3 win over their Midwest division rivals. Your Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game went to new acquisition Mark Woolley. The Mac Taylor Corporation three stars were split between the teams. Brady Lyle earned 3rd star with a goal and an assist, Jonathan Yantsis won 2nd with 2 goals and Mack Guzda claimed 1st with an outstanding 35 save performance including multiple highlight reel robberies.

The Owen Sound Attack begin a road trip to Erie this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday against the Otters. Games can be viewed on Rogers Channel 53 or heard on 560 CFOS Kia of Owen Sound/Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio.
