Wolves Host Central Division Rivals this Weekend
January 9, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Sudbury Wolves News Release
(Greater Sudbury, ON) Wolves action returns to the Sudbury Arena this weekend for a double- header match-up with two Central division rivals. The Wolves prepare for a busy weekend as they get set to host the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night and the Niagara IceDogs on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves will be welcoming back a familiar face on Friday as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will return to the net for the first time since winning gold at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver with Team Finland. Luukkonen made 25 saves to lead his country to a 3-2 victory over the United States in the gold medal game. Prior to Friday's game, the Wolves will honour Luukkonen with a special pre-game celebration, while also providing commemorative Luukkonen Team Finland photos for the first 2500 fans.
Friday, the Wolves face the Mississauga Steelheads at 7:05pm. The Steelheads are currently sitting in 7th place in the Eastern Conference. The Steelheads will be making their first
appearance in Sudbury since trading stars Owen Tippett and Ryan McLeod to Saginaw earlier this month. Mississauga is led up front by Captain Cole Carter and former Wolf, Alan Lyszczarczyk. Carter's 47 and Lyszczarczyk's 46 points rank first and second in team scoring.
Friday's game is sponsored by Giant Tiger. The first 800 fans to attend the game will receive exclusive Giant Tiger Thundersticks. Don't miss the Giant Tiger t-shirt toss in the second intermission and one lucky row will also have a chance at winning Giant Tiger gift cards.
Sunday afternoon, the Wolves will match up with the Niagara IceDogs at 3:05pm. The Niagara IceDogs sit seven points ahead of the Wolves in the Central Division race. Jason Robertson leads the team with 60 points in just 32 games with both the Ice Dogs and the Kingston Frontenacs. The Northville, MI native also got to represent his country at this past World Junior Tournament, where he fell to Luukkonen in the final, winning a silver medal.
Sunday's game is sponsored by Booster Juice. Two lucky rows will win a free smoothie with a fruit infuser coupon.
