HAGERSTOWN, MD - Kelvin Gutierrez became the fifth Sun in 2019, the third this week to debut in the Majors this season. He finished 1-3, playing defensively at the hot corner for Kansas City in a game against the Los Angeles Angels Saturday evening.

The Dominican Republic-native spent 96 games in 2016 with the Suns, hitting .300 while driving in 48 runs and knocking 28 extra-base hits for the team.

In 2016, he was named a South Atlantic League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star, en route to eventually moving to the Carolina League after starting the season in the New York-Penn League. The All-Star appearance was by no means a fluke. Gutierrez earned Mid-Season All-Star nods each year from 2015-2017 in the New York-Penn, South Atlantic and Carolina Leagues, respectively.

He played 499 games in the minors, with a .285 average as he climbed the ladder.

The International Free Agent acquisition was signed by the Nationals April 10, 2013 and was dealt to the Royals June 18, 2018 in a four-player swap that brought RHP Kelvin Herrera to the Nationals.
