Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Salisbury, MD: After the GreenJackets stole the 2nd game of yesterdays doubleheader, Jesus Ozoria made his GreenJackets debut without allowing a run on the mound in four innings. Solomon Bates and Franklin Van Gurp went the final five innings and the GreenJackets defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first shutout of the year for the GreenJackets as they split the series with Delmarva, who owns the best record in the SAL at 17-4.

After the GreenJackets left two men-on-base in the 1st inning, Aaron Bond walked in the 2nd, and an error allowed Jeffry Parra to reach while advancing Bond to 3rd base. With Ismael Munguia at the plate, a wild pitch scored Bond from 3rd base and gave the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead.

Ozoria made his United States debut for Augusta and did not disappoint. Ozoria went four innings of shutout baseball on the mound while striking-out two. He spent the last two seasons in the Dominican Summer League and was traded to the Giants from the Seattle Mariners on March 29, 2019 for Catcher Tom Murphy. The right-hander joined the GreenJackets on Friday night, and was phenomenal in his debut Sunday afternoon.

Nick Vespi allowed just one run over five innings while picking-up seven strikeouts for Delmarva. The run was unnearned. And Vespi lowers his ERA from 6.75, down to 4.60.

In the 7th inning, the GreenJackets got some insurance. After Jeffry Parra led the inning off with a double, Ismael Munguia extended his hitting streak to nine-games with an RBI single to make it 2-0 Jackets.

Out of the GreenJackets bullpen, Solomon Bates was brilliant. The right-hander went three innings without allowing a run and he had five strikeouts.

Wander Franco led off the 9th inning with a solo home run to give the GreenJackets a 3-0 lead. It was Franco's 3rd home run of the season.

Franklin Van Gurp went the final two innings without allowing a run and striking-out three to give Augusta the shutout over Delmarva, 3-0. The Shorebirds had just four hits for the game.

Player of the Game: Solomon Bates, 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K

After Bates allowed a walk-off home run in his last outing, the right-hander was dominant to help the GreenJackets earn their first shutout of 2019.

Upcoming Homestand: The Augusta GreenJackets return home for a seven-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, April 30th. The GreenJackets will take on the Lexington Legends (Kansas City Royals) for three games, before welcoming the Hagerstown Suns (Washington Nationals) to town.

Tuesday's game will be a 10:35 a.m. first pitch. It will be the 2nd Education Day of the season as the GreenJackets will host kids from all over the CSRA as they take a field trip to SRP Park. It will also be the 2nd "Tuesday Brew-and-Q" presented by Maurice's BBQ. The GreenJackets will have a $3 special on beer and BBQ.

Jake Wong will take the mound for the GreenJackets. Wong, the #7 Prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization, will make his 5th start of the season. Wong is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.78 this year.
