February 27, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The 3rd annual Guns âN Hoses charity hockey game pitting the Anchorage Fire Department versus Anchorage Police Department will take place on March 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sullivan Arena.
Fans will be entertained by demonstrations from the APD's K-9 Unit and Crisis Intervention Response Team, "Buddy Bear," "Sparky," AFD clowns and the bears from the American Diabetes Association. Everyone will have an opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at the AFD Hummer and APD squad cars located on the concourse. Fans may also participate in a silent auction featuring autographed merchandise, including jerseys from the Anchorage Fire Department and a signed stick from Anchorage native and current New Jersey Devil Scott Gomez.
Guns âN Hoses participants will include former Aces' Keith Street, Steve MacSwain, Darrin Semeniuk, Jim Mayes, Zach Westin, Bryan Majeske, Jim Tobin, Tim Molle, Mark Nokelby, and former UAA player Eric Tuott. Following the Guns âN Hoses game and prior to the Aces game, fans will have the opportunity to skate with both fire and police departments.
This year's game will benefit the Anchorage chapter of the American Diabetes Association. The teams have split the previous two games so the March 8 affair will serve as the rubber match. "We can't thank the Aces and Guns âN Hoses enough," said Michelle Casano with the ADA.
The proceeds from the game will be used by the Anchorage chapter of the ADA for education and summer youth programs. Diabetes is a disease affecting over 37,000 Alaskans annually. If you want more information about Diabetes, access the American Diabetes Association website at www.diabetes.org.
The purpose of Guns âN Hoses lies in its mission statement, "To rally our community and support honorable local charities while providing quality family entertainment to those we serve." Last year's event raised $10,000 for the American Red Cross.
Season ticket holders may use their March 8 ticket for admission to the Guns âN Hoses game. The ticket for the Guns âN Hoses game is good for general admission seating and Upper Balcony reserved for the Aces game against Long Beach following the charity game. Opportunities to purchase tickets at $10 for both games are available at each of the following locations: the Aces team office, the American Diabetes Association office (272-1424), the main Anchorage Police Department office and all Anchorage Fire Department stations.
