Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Sixth Annual Catch A Steelhead Benefit for the Make A Wish Foundation at Hannah's held on February 11th, 2003 went down in the record books as the best yet! Just over $25,000.00 was raised to grant the wishes of children living with life threatening illnesses. These funds will make it possible to grant the wishes of at least five children living right here in Idaho.

Donations were raised through a live auction for dates with Idaho Steelheads hockey players, and a silent auction of merchandise including a Scottie Pippen lithograph that went for $1,000.00 and a framed Steelheads jersey that went for $450.00.

"We are so grateful to the Steelheads and the Booster Club for their generosity," said Karla Wagner, program services director for the Make A Wish Foundation of Idaho. "Their efforts have enabled over 20 wishes to come true over the years."

Rocci Johnson, event chair said, "My warmest personal thanks go out to the Steelheads Booster Club, all of our sponsors, our volunteers, Hannah's, and especially the Steelheads players, families and staff for another very successful "Catch A Steelhead" year!"

The Hollywood theme for the night began with the Steelheads players arriving by limousine and a red carpet entry to cheering fans to kick off the auction.

Dates with the Steelheads players, both bachelors and married, brought in over $8,600.00, with the married or paired Steelheads outdoing the bachelors for the second year running. The bachelors brought in $2,760.00, while dates with the paired-up guys went for a total of $5,300.00.

The high bid for the evening went to Scott Burt and his girlfriend Christina at $1,000.00. Scott sweetened the pot by offering to throw in a rafting trip with himself and fellow Steelhead Dan Shermerhorn. Shermerhorn and his girlfriend Brooke came in at a close second at $800.00, by offering a second rafting trip and lawn services from Steelhead Jeff Shevalier's lawn-cutting business. Jeff was not to be outdone and offered to have two players mow lawns at least twice during the summer.

Three bachelors tied for first this year, with Cory Morgan, Derrick Atkinson, and Petr Suchanek coming in at $425.00 each. Derrick wowed the crowd with his amazing "Michael Jackson" dance moves. Equipment manager Khris Bestel brought in a respectable $325.00.

Steelhead Adam Copeland unveiled a video he has been working on for months that shared some insight into the life of a hockey player. The video, which included humorous clips of players on and off the ice, was enjoyed immensely by all.
