Beauchemin Advances to the NHL

BILOXI, Miss. – Former Mississippi Sea Wolves defenseman Francois Beauchemin (FRAHN-swuh / BOH-shah-min) became the sixth former Sea Wolves player to advance to the National Hockey League. He made his debut tonight with Montreal in the Canadiens 6-3 home loss against the Minnesota Wild.

The 22-year-old Beauchemin finished with one shot on net and a minus-1 rating in the contest. He was recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Beauchemin played seven games with Mississippi last season. He scored one goal and registered three assists along with two penalty minutes. Beauchemin was selected by Montreal in the third round, 75th overall in 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Beauchemin joins Jason Morgan (Los Angeles), Jan Nemecek (Los Angeles), Travis Scott (Los Angeles), Dan Focht (Phoenix) and Chris Schmidt (Los Angeles) as Sea Wolves alumni that have advanced to the NHL.
