Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - In his first home game since returning from a broken finger, Generals Captain Jay Murphy scored the game-winning goal as the Generals (33-18-6) defeated the Augusta Lynx (20-33-4) by the score of 3-1.

Following a scoreless opening period, Augusta's Phil Roy scored at the 7:22 mark, to make the score 1-0 and break a scoreless streak that of 92:22 between the two teams. The streak began with Sunday's game, a 1-0 shootout loss in Augusta. The Generals Mark Turner knotted the game at 1-1 on a rebound of a Geno Parrish shot. The game-winner came with just five seconds remaining in the second period, when Jay Murphy ushered both teams to the locker rooms by stealing a Lynx clearing attempt and blasting a slap shot past Tom Draper. The Generals Bryan Richardson added an insurance goal at 11:26 in the third for the final difference.

The Generals netminder Daniel Berthiaume proved to be the backbone of the defense, as Greensboro was outshot by the Lynx 30-13 in the second and third periods. Berthiaume improves to 23-12-2, making 36 saves in all, and extended the Lynx's record to 0-26-2 when trailing after two periods.

The Generals return to the Greensboro Coliseum on Friday when they face the Columbia Infereno at 7:30 on "Pack the House" Night. The festivities will include Generals players wearing Carolina Monarch jerseys, WWE Superstar Shawn Michaels will appear to sign autographs, and the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving Kevin Weekes bobblehead dolls. Fans will also be able to purchase $2.50 Carolina Monarch cups and a hotdog throughout the coliseum, as well as be able to participate in a live auction following the game of the Monarchs jerseys. Fans can listen to the game on WPET 950AM and www.greensborogenerals.com.
