February 27, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

The Dayton Bombers have announced that they have acquired defenseman Lee Ruff and forward Jim Leger in two separate East Coast Hockey League trading deadline acquisitions. The Bombers received Ruff and cash from the Southern Conference's Florida Everblades in exchange for defenseman Kyle Kos. In a separate trade, the Bombers acquired forward Jim Leger from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for forward Jason Shymr, whom the Bombers received earlier on Wednesday from the Augusta Lynx for future considerations.

"Both Ruff and Leger have built solid reputations as hard-nosed, character players who will battle to the end. Each have an endless amount of pride and commitment to 'team' play," said Bombers Head Coach/G.M. of Hockey Operations Greg Ireland.

Ruff, 27, is a four-year product of Northern Michigan University. "Ruff is a steady, in-your-face defenseman who knows only one way to play ... all out," added Ireland. This is Ruff's third season in the East Coast Hockey League.. He spent the 2000-2001 season with the New Orleans Brass. In the 2001-2002 campaign, he played for both New Orleans and Florida, tallying a season-high 11 goals and 39 points. Earlier this season with the Everblades, he accumulated three goals, eight assists, and 31 penalty minutes in 34 games played.

Leger, a one-time teammate of current Bombers Mike Vellinga and Blair Stayzer while with Johnstown, played four years of college hockey with the University of Maine, winning the NCAA National Championship with the Black Bears in 1999. "Leger is a hard-working, gritty forward who is intelligent in his approach. He also performs well in the community." Leger received the 1999-2000 College Hockey Humanitarian Award for his involvement in charities while with Maine. This is Leger's third season as a professional. He scored a season-high 20 goals and 37 points in 59 games with the Chiefs last season. He also appeared in all eight of Johnstown's 2002 ECHL playoff games, including all three against the Bombers in the Northwest Division Final Series.
