San Diego, Calif. – Trevor Koenig stopped 22 shots and the San Diego Gulls scored once in each period en route to a 3-0 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 2,743 fans at the San Diego Sports Arena on Tuesday night.

The first period was the least physical of the series. A string of penalties throughout the period gave both teams a handful of power plays, one of which led to the only goal of the opening frame. Mark Pederson blasted home a slapshot from the top of the right circle to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead.

San Diego extended the lead in the second period, when Dennis Purdie finished off an odd-man rush for his first of the post-season. The Condors had three more power plays during the period, but the Gulls penalty killing (tops in the league during the regular season) thwarted each opportunity. Shots on goal were 20-15 in favor of San Diego after 40 minutes.

The Gulls added their third goal of the game as a redirected pass found the stick of Clayton Read. He came in alone on Condors netminder Kevin St. Pierre and fired a wrist shot by him for the 3-0 score. The third period saw a total of 22 penalties called, including two majors, for 50 minutes of infractions. The Gulls held the Condors to just 22 shots in the game, as Koenig recorded the shutout. San Diego took the 2-games-to-1 lead with the victory.

The Condors and Gulls continue with Games Four and Five from San Diego, Wednesday and Friday night from the San Diego Sports Arena. Should the best-of-seven series require a sixth game, it will take place at Centennial Garden on Sunday, April 20th at 6:00pm. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a set of Condors ThunderStix. KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio and the Active 20/30 Club sponsor the opening round of the playoffs.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
