Steelheads Gear Up for Game Three in Fresno

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads play Game #3 of the Larry Miller Subaru Mitsubishi WCHL Playoffs in Fresno tonight at 8:00 p.m. MST at Selland Arena. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 KTIK with Britt Talbert behind the mic. The two teams are split at one game apiece after last weekend's matchup in Boise.

Overall, in two games:

TEAMS: Goals- Idaho 5; Fresno 7; SOG- Idaho has been outshot by Fresno 68-48; PP- Idaho 3 for 11; Fresno 3 for 17

SCORING LEADERS: IDAHO Joe Rybar-3 points (1 goal, 2 assists); Cory Morgan-2 points (2 goals); Marty Flichel-2 points (1 goal, 1 assists); Scott Swanson (2 assists). FRESNO Colin Embley-3 points (2 goals, 1 assists); Rob Bonneau-2 points (2 goals); Kirk Dewaele-2 points (2 assists); Drew Schoneck-2 points (2 assists).

BETWEEN THE PIPES: IDAHO'S Blair Allison is 1-1-0 and posting a 2.70 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage. FRESNO'S Mark Gowan is 1-1-0 with a 1.87 goals-against-average and .925 save percentage.

GAME #1 RECAP 4-11-03: Idaho Wins 3-2; Leads Series 1-0 Idaho's Adam Copeland deflected Jeremy Mylymok's shot with :58 left in the game to give the Steelheads the 3-2 win and a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Idaho's Blair Allison faced 30 shots including 18 in the first period; while Fresno's goaltenders Terry Friesen and Mark Gowan had a look at 20 Steelheads attempts. Each team went 1 for 3 on the power play. In total, 184 combined penalty minutes were handed down including: Fresno's Haas who received a 5-game suspension; Bonneau, Prosofsky, and Gowan each received a game misconduct; and Landry received a gross misconduct. Idaho's Brar received a 2-game misconduct; Mylymok received a game misconduct and a gross misconduct.

GAME #2 RECAP 4-12-03: Fresno Wins 5-2; Series Tied 1-1 The Fresno Falcons rallied from a two-goal deficit and evened the best-of-seven WCHL first round playoff series at one game apiece with a 5-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads. Fresno dominated play in the second period, thanks in large part to Idaho's nine penalties, which resulted in five power play opportunities for the Falcons. Fresno converted two of those chances, both on 5-on-3 advantages. Fresno tallied the only goal of the frame, an empty-netter by Rob Bonneau at 17:33. Idaho put pressure on Fresno's Gowan late in the period, but the Falcon netminder was equal to the task in recording his first career playoff victory. Fresno outshot the Steelheads 35-28. Idaho went 2 for 5 on the power play; Fresno went 2 for 10.
