The San Diego Gulls won their third consecutive game with a 4-1 win over the Bakersfield Condors. San Diego scored two power-play goals and have now scored on the man advantage in 10 of their 12 games. The Gulls rank fifth in the AHL on the power play (13-of-58, 24.5 percent). The Gulls killed both Condors power plays and have killed 17 of the last 19 penalties the last five games (89.5 percent).

Kevin Boyle stopped 46-of-47 shots to win his third straight game, season highs in shots stopped and faced. During his three-game point streak, Boyle has posted a 2.01 goals-against average and .950 save percentage.

At 6:44 of the first period, Boyle stopped Luke Esposito's penalty shot attempt. Boyle has stopped both penalty shot attempts in his career (last: Caleb Herbert (unsuccessful) on Dec. 31, 2016 at Texas). The penalty shot was the sixth against the Gulls and fifth unsuccessful (last: Spencer Foo unsuccessful attempt against Jared Coreau on Oct. 26, 2018 vs. Stockton).

Corey Tropp scored his third and fourth goals of the season, his ninth career multi-goal game and 42nd career multi-point effort. Tropp leads San Diego in points (4-10=14) and assists this season.

Troy Terry scored for the third straight game and tallied an assist (1-1=2) to extend his point streak to a club record-tying nine games (6-7=13). The nine-game point streak ties the Gulls all-time record for consecutive games with a point set by Tropp (Dec. 9, 2017-Jan. 3, 2018;8-6=14) and Nic Kerdiles (Feb. 26-Mar. 18, 2016; 7-9=16). Terry has scored points in all nine games to begin his AHL career, a Gulls record. Terry also has recorded a point in all seven home games to begin his career (5-5=10).

Terry's point streak is the longest current streak in the AHL and is now tied for the longest point streak in the AHL this season, tying Zach Redmond (Rochester) and Reid Boucher (Utica).

Chase De Leo scored his fourth goal of the season at 1:25 of the second period. De Leo has three points his last three games (2-1=3).

In his AHL debut, Isac Lundestrom earned two assists (0-2=2) and had six shots on goal. At 19 years and 10 days, Lundestrom became the youngest Gull to record a point and the third-youngest Gulls to appear in a game. He was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Josh Mahura also recorded two assists (0-2=2), his second career multi-assist game (also Oct. 19 vs. Milwaukee; 0-2=2).

Sam Steel and Joseph Blandisi each earned an assist of the second straight game. Andrej Sustr also tallied an assist in the win.

Tonight's attendance was 10,020.

POSTGAME QUOTES

San Diego Gulls

Kevin Boyle

On the win

I thought it was an overall good team effort. We had a great weekend last weekend with two hard-fought wins and we came in here and we kept the momentum going, which is huge for us. We got some bounces that went our way. At the beginning of the season, some of those didn't go our way and tonight they did. It was a good win.

On his play

It's tough at the beginning of the season. I think this is our third straight week where we only have one game that week. It's tough to get into a rhythm. [Jared Coreau] and I have a good thing going. We battle it out in practice. He's a great guy. I've gotten some confidence over the past few weeks and I just need to keep it going.

On Willie O'Ree

He's incredible. He's done so much for the game of hockey. I never really knew about it but once you learn about it, you're like, 'wow, that's absolutely incredible.' He's been around here for the past three years so I've gotten to know him a little bit. He's just an amazing human being. To be able to honor him tonight and come out with a win for him tonight is something special.

Corey Tropp

On the win

It was a good effort by our team. We had a little bit of the carryover effect from last weekend and hopefully we can continue to grow this week. We'll get back to work tomorrow and continue to push in the right direction.

On the team's progress

It's early on in the year and there is so much youth in the lineup, you never know how someone is going to adjust or how long it's going to take for everyone to get on the same page and get in sync. The coaching staff is doing a good job of helping develop our young talent and also teaching us older guys.

Head Coach Dallas Eakins

On the win

I thought our power play was excellent. I thought we were fairly responsible too. I'd rather not sit back on a lead like we did in the third period. I thought we sat back and let them come at us. But there were a lot of positives after a long week of practice. It's a weird week playing only one game but we were prepared for them and were able to exploit them.

On the team's defensive play

Kevin [Boyle] gave us another great game. It's really encouraging to see him grab it like that. Our defensemen played extra well. Losing [Jaycob] Megna early in the game and rolling with five defensemen is not easy to do. It's a real great testament to our five tonight.

On the team's balanced scoring

Tonight is a great example. A kid like [Isac] Lundestrom is able to come in, grab a couple assists and get six shots on net. Corey Tropp was a beast out there tonight. I think our veteran guys are feeding off our young guys and our young guys are feeding off our vets. It's a great mix.

On Willie O'Ree

It's a humbling experience for me personally and I know our staff and players feel the same. It's such a privilege to have Willie around. He's always around and always available. He's such a kind soul. I think he's just a great example of a human being we should all aspire to be.
