Belleville Senators News Release

The Belleville Senators' five-game homestand came to a close Saturday night with a tight 2-1 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at CAA Arena.

Jake Paterson, making his first start for Belleville, made 25 saves while Adam Tambellini scored. Bridgeport had goals from Mitchell Vande Sompel and Scott Eansor while Christopher Gibson stopped 28 shots.

Tied at a goal apiece heading into the third period, it was a redirect by Eansor that wound up being the difference as he got a stick on Jeff Kubiak's point shot from the blue at 10:03. The Senators poured it on late and nearly had the tying goal with less than three minutes to play as Nick Paul's rebound was cleared off the line by Vande Sompel's skate after Rodewald's initial shot had been saved by Gibson.

And Belleville came even closer to forcing overtime as Chase Balisy hit the crossbar with under five seconds to play as the Sound Tigers clung on for victory.

After a cagey opening, it was the visitors who struck first at 10:03 through d-man Vande Sompel as an extra pass from Sebastian Aho after the Sound Tigers forced a turnover in the Sens corner allowed him to pick his spot to beat Paterson.

But the Belleville power play continued to truck on as Tambellini buried his team-high fifth man advantage goal as he was left in the slot all alone after a sharp pass from Paul Carey at 2:06.

Despite no scoring in the second period, chances were plentiful for either team. Paterson made perhaps his biggest save of the night as he denied Travis St. Denis on a breakaway with a good pad save before Belleville drew iron as Nick Paul redirected Logan Brown's blast from the blue line.

Bridgeport also managed to hit the post in the period as again St. Denis came close to a goal as on the power play he dinged the outside of the post too.

The Senators are now 0-3 all-time against the Sound Tigers.

Belleville is back in action on Tuesday when they fly south to battle the Charlotte Checkers. The Senators are home next on Oct. 30 against the Utica Comets. Tickets are available.
