Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (8-7-1-0) spent Saturday night in Grand Rapids where they took on the Griffins (8-7-0-1). The game's opening goal came 11 minutes in, off the rush. JC Lipon's third of the campaign came on an easy tap-in created by a nice move to the slot from rookie Luke Green. Green used his skating to draw the Griffins' skaters in before sneaking the puck through Harri Sateri and over to Lipon. Grand Rapids tied it back up just 49 seconds later when an clearing attempt bounced off a skate and back behind the Moose defence. Turner Elson was on it quickly and fired it on net where Chris Terry tipped it past Eric Comrie.
The second period was a matter of special teams. Manitoba took the first four penalties of the game including two back-to-back in the first six minutes of the middle frame. The best chance on that man advantage came from the shorthanded Moose when Logan Shaw's slapshot from the faceoff dot rang off the crossbar. In the final six minutes of the period it was Grand Rapids taking consecutive penalties. The Moose power play couldn't convert and period two finished as it started, with the teams tied at one.
Only 33 seconds into the third, the Griffins took their first lead with Dominic Turgeon intercepting a pass in the slot. Despite the puck bouncing, Turgeon was able to bang it in behind Comrie. In the final minute, with Manitoba's net empty, Tye McGinn tipped a Michael Spacek shot from the point to send the game to overtime. Only 35 seconds into the extra time Terry picked off a drop pass before sending in Carter Camper for the game winning goal.
