SAN ANTONIO, TX - Adam Musil's goal midway through the third period was the game-winner, as the San Antonio Rampage (5-12-0) grinded out a 2-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs (8-7-3) in front of 8,254 fans at the AT&T Center for San Antonio's first ever Hockey Fights Cancer game.
The victory gave the Rampage back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Jordan Binnington stopped 14 of 15 shots for his fourth win, and Austin Poganski netted his first goal of the season.
After a first period in which both teams combined for eight shots, Poganski opened the scoring on the power play at 14:35 of the second period. Mitch Reinke's power play wrist shot from the right point was deflected by Jordan Nolan, forcing a rebound after the initial save by Rockford goaltender Kevin Lankinen. After several stuff-in attempts, Poganski chipped the puck over the goal line for a 1-0 Rampage lead.
The IceHogs answered at 18:05 of the second with a power play goal of their own, with Jacob Nilsson redirecting a Carl Dahlstrom point shot past Binnington for his third goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.
The score remained tied until 9:07 of the third period. After an extended shift in the Rockford zone, the puck was cleared out to center only to be brought right back in by Tanner Kaspick. Kaspick fed Musil in the slot for the wrist shot past Lankinen and his third goal of the season.
The Rampage held Rockford to 15 shots after holding the Manitoba Moose to just 16 shots on Tuesday. Binnington's goals-against average improved to 1.98, the third-best mark in the AHL, while his .925 save percentage ranks fifth.
With an assist, Nolan extended his points streak to four games, the longest streak by a Rampage player this season. Nolan has six points in that span.
The Rampage and IceHogs face off again on Tuesday night at the AT&T Center, with puck-drop scheduled for 7 p.m. The game is available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
